The Common Admission Test (CAT EXAM 2020 Result)[2] is a computer based test for admission in a graduate management program. CAT exam or the Common Admission Test is a computer-based MBA entrance test for admissions into the IIMs and several other prestigious B-Schools in the Country. In August 2011, it was announced that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) would also use the CAT scores, instead of the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET), to select students for their management programmes starting with the 2012-14 batch.[3]

Before 2009, CAT was a paper based test conducted on a single day for all candidates. The pattern, number of questions and duration have seen considerable variations over the years.

On 1 May 2009, it was announced that CAT would be a Computer Based Test starting from 2009. The American firm Prometric was entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the test from 2009 to 2013.[4] The first computer based CAT was marred with technical snags.[5] The issue was so serious that it prompted the Government of India to seek a report from the convenor.[6] The trouble was diagnosed as ‘Conficker’ and ‘W32 Nimda’, the two viruses that attacked the system display of the test, causing server slow down.[7] Since 2014 onward, CAT has been conducted by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). CAT 2015 and CAT 2016 were 180-minute tests consisting of 100 questions (34 from Quantitative Ability (QA), 34 from Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), and 32 from Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)).[8]

Common Admission Test or CAT 2020 notification will be announced in July and the exam will be conducted on the last Sunday of November or first Sunday of December. The CAT exam is conducted by one of the IIMs on rotational basis and is a gateway to India’s top MBA institutes, the IIMs and over 1200 other business schools. About 2.4 lakh candidates register for CAT exam every year. CAT 2019 was conducted by IIM Kozhikode on November 24, 2019 and the CAT result was announced on January 4, 2020. The name of CAT convening institute for 2020 exam will be announced in the month of May. CAT 2020 registration will begin in August and close by the end of September.

CAT Entrance Exam 2020 eligibility criteria
Candidates having a graduation degree with an aggregate of 50 percent marks or equivalent CGPA (45 percent for reserved category) can apply for CAT 2020.
Candidates who have completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with 50 percent marks or equivalent (45 percent for reserved category).
Candidates in their final year of graduation degree are also eligible to apply for CAT exam.
Note: The percentage of marks obtained by a candidate will be calculated based on the formula practiced by the institute or university. In case, there is no scheme of converting CGPA into equivalent marks, at the said institute or university, the same would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA, and
multiplying the result with 100.
